Sally Doty - Solving Key Issues in the Senate

Sally Doty is a Senator in Mississippi who has aggressively pushed for solutions to several key issues in the Senate, including but not limited to the following:
Teen Pregnancy
Sally Doty is working hard to prevent teen pregnancy because, “at this stage in their lives, they should be students, not parents.” She aims to diminish the numbers of teen pregnancy in Mississippi by sponsoring legislation to require better, age-appropriate sex education courses within the school system. Teenagers are often unable to realize the consequences of their actions. Therefore, it is important to spread awareness and show teenagers how their lives will be affected by an early and unplanned pregnancy.

Human Trafficking
Sally Doty and her fellow senators in Mississippi are working diligently to put an end to human trafficking both in their state and the country as a whole. While human trafficking is a continually growing problem in Mississippi and throughout the globe, lawmakers such as Doty are using their influence to help put an end to the horrendous crime of human trafficking and other forms of interpersonal violence.

Teacher Pay
Sally Doty stood behind a new payment plan that gave Mississippi teachers a pay raise in the 2014-2015 school year, and set up a merit program for 2017. With two children still in the public school system, Senator Doty knows that teachers are important professionals who play a vital role in children’s lives. These professionals watch over and guide their pupils throughout the day, and they also advise these kids and help them figure out what path to take in their future endeavors.

Sally Doty - The Importance of Preventing Teen Pregnancy

Senator Sally Doty works to provide solutions to issues affecting Mississippi and the greater United States. A key to preventing teen pregnancy is spreading awareness of what having a child actually entails. Teenage girls should know what having a child at a young age could do to their bodies and to their futures. It is important that young girls understand that pregnancies at a young age are almost always high risk. Young women who become pregnant are at a higher risk than their older counterparts of developing high blood pressure. They are also at a high risk for delivering early, and their baby having a low birth weight. This could impact not only their own bodies but their children as well.

Although, the majority of the stigma is placed on the teenage girls for being the one that is pregnant, teen boys also need to be informed of the ramifications of getting a girl pregnant.  Pregnancy at an early age can destroy a young person’s finances. Some teen parents are forced to drop out of high school to take care of their children. It is also difficult for teen parents to attend college later because their finances often do not allow it, or they do not have the help they need to raise a small child while attending school. This could result in teen parents being unable to support their children and, potentially, lifelong poverty.

Senator Sally Doty is on a task force that addresses the issue of teen pregnancy in Mississippi that has already seen some improvement in the teen pregnancy rate, which they hope to continue to lower during the next legislative term.

Sally Doty - Human Trafficking in Mississippi

Mississippi State Senator Sally Doty is outspoken about the issue of human trafficking, and works hard to put an end to this crime. In 2015, Governor Phil Bryant appointed her to the Human Trafficking Taskforce, and she has worked hard to tackle this statewide issue. Mississippi’s location, as well as poverty levels and other social issues, have made this state susceptible to human trafficking.

Human trafficking is an issue on the coast of Mississippi as well as in the state’s capitol city of Jackson. Location is a major factor in human trafficking. Mississippi sits on the Gulf Coast, and the Port of Gulfport is a major hub for international trade between the Americas. The Gulf Coast is also a major tourist destination. These two factors make this area ideal for human traffickers. Jackson is also an ideal location for these criminals because it is the largest city in Mississippi and two major interstate highways run through the city. Locations such as these make transporting victims easy for human traffickers

A recent study and report released by the Beautiful Ones Ministries and Belhaven University showed that four counties in Jackson, Mississippi were a central hub for sex trafficking in southeastern United States. The study discovered that this was due to the state’s poverty levels, family structures, and educational gaps. Sandy Middleton, the Executive Director of the Mississippi Center for Violence Prevention reported that one married couple had sold their daughter to an out of state truck driver for $5,000.

Sally Doty - How to Prevent Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a worldwide issue and Mississippi is doing its part to put an end to this terrible crime. Sally Doty, the Republican Senator of District 39 in Mississippi, is one of many lawmakers in the state fighting to put an end to this atrocious act. Ever since she was elected into office, Sally Doty has taken a stand against human trafficking and other forms of interpersonal violence. Mississippi is one of the many coastal locations that struggles with human trafficking, which makes it difficult to detect and stop these criminals. There are several ways you can help put an end to human trafficking.
Sally Doty
The first step in preventing human trafficking is education. It is important for people worldwide to know the statistics of human trafficking. No matter what city or country you live in, you should make sure to educate yourself on human trafficking in your area. You should learn about which areas are more susceptible to human trafficking and what warning signs you should look for so you can call the appropriate authorities. It is also essential to teach children not to go anywhere with strangers, or share personal information such as phone numbers and home addresses.

The second step in preventing human trafficking is awareness. If you live near an international airport or port, of if you are in an area that thrives on tourism, you should be aware of the warning signs of human trafficking. When you are out in public be aware of your surroundings and the people you see. If you ever see anything suspicious, you should immediately call local law enforcement.

Sally Doty - Working to Improve Mississippi’s Teen Pregnancy Rate

One of the top goals of dedicated Mississippi State Senator Sally Doty is, and has always been, to be a positive voice for change in the lives of children throughout the state. As such, Doty is devoted to decreasing Mississippi’s teen pregnancy rate, one reason why she was named as Chair of Governor Phil Bryant’s State and Local Action Committee for the Blue Ribbon Task Force on the Prevention of Teen Pregnancy, an honor she received in 2012.

As committee chair, Senator Doty wrote legislation in 2014 that required all public community and four-year colleges throughout the state to develop and submit a plan that would address the teen pregnancy issue. The bill, SB2563, was passed through the legislature, and was signed by Governor Bryant with Doty and others in attendance.

As Doty knows, taking steps to improve the state’s teen pregnancy rate can and does have a significant impact on numerous other often serious social issues throughout Mississippi, such as child poverty, absent fathers, child neglect and abuse, failure in school and poor preparation for joining the workforce. The economic costs of a high teen pregnancy rate are significant as well, as the costs associated with the issue were estimated to be over 137 million in 2010.

Before the 2014 legislative session, Senator Sally Doty made an appearance on the nationally-syndicated “The Doctors” TV program, where she discussed then-current legislation to prosecute older men who impregnate teenage girls.

“This is statutory rape and behavior that is unacceptable,” said Doty on the program. “These young girls have their lives totally changed with the birth of a baby, and law enforcement will make sure that the father’s life changes as well.”

Sally Doty - How to Bring People Together

There are rare instances and occurrences throughout history where an entire country became solidified and unified towards one cause. This sort of solidarity is truly rare, and usually requires something very intrinsically stirring, a massive event or tribulation that captures the imagination and the emotion of the people. It is during these times that we often experience a social and economic prosperity, one brought about by a universal focus on a singular goal. That is why it is so valuable to be able to bring people together: to act as a cohesive bonding agent that allows us to work as one. This is something that can be taught only through experience, and knowing which buttons to push at the right time.

Bringing people together is something that has historically been the mission of politicians everywhere, as they know the power of a collective entity. Bringing people together is a matter of getting them all educated about the same issue, and finding a way to present that issue in a way that is relevant and pertinent to them all. If you are able to create a cause that is intrinsic to everyone's core beliefs or ideas, you can then get them to cooperate in order to accomplish a goal. This feat of social engineering has been the key to America's success.

Sally Doty is a professional litigator and senator who hopes to help her beloved district and state prosper under her guidance. She believes that the best way to do this is to unite people under the same cause, to show that we are all after the same things, which will spark solidarity and a more efficient and effective government.

Sally Doty - How to Be a Better Leader

One of the most vital tools of being a good leader is to lead by example, which requires a lot of confidence on an individual's part. Though building this confidence can take time, once you have achieved it, your team members will act faster for every project that arises, increasing your company or organization's net worth. Gaining the confidence of your co-workers is the epitome of success in leadership, and with their unabashed backing, you can achieve anything in the world. Leading by example not only wins you the trust of your co-workers, but is a great way for you yourself to learn more about the field. One of the last bits of advice when speaking of leadership skills is the old saying 'Confidence is Key.' People always react better to requests when the leader participates with them, especially when it comes to undertaking many difficult projects. Once you have earned their respect, you must establish strong work ethic in your team. Nothing can be achieved without lots of drive and dedication, which is why you should focus on goal oriented programs and procedures for your team, to help keep them on the same track
Sally Doty

Over the years, Sally Doty has been recognized for her many impressive achievements as a Mississippi senator. When asked what the secret is to her success, she simply replies that a good leader is about listening to the voices of their followers. It seems that no matter which project she embarks upon, success in that community is soon to follow.
